Asbestos Removal
Asbestos is an extremely harmful material when it is damaged or disturbed, and it kills around 2,500 people in the UK each year. This alarming figure is due to the asbestos being disturbed or removed incorrectly, allowing the fibres to become airborne and breathable, causing severe health issues for anyone that breathes them in. It is for this reason that it is important to have any asbestos removed safely, which is where we can assist at Astech Environmental Ltd.
One of the many asbestos services we offer our clients in Devon is asbestos removal. Whether you wish to have work carried out on your property, or you simply know asbestos is present, it is important to have it removed correctly and safely, and we can help.
In some cases, if asbestos is in a location that is unlikely to be disturbed and it is in good condition, it won’t need to be removed. However, if the asbestos containing materials are likely to be disturbed and damaged, it is imperative to remove it before this happens.
We offer a comprehensive service for removing asbestos containing materials, starting with a survey. This will enable us to identify where asbestos is located, what type it is, and the best method moving forward. Any asbestos will be removed correctly and safely by our team, following all guidance and legislation.
We can remove asbestos from a variety of locations in your property, including:
- Internal/External Walls
- Pipes and Insulation Systems
- Roofs
- Ceilings
- And More!
If the asbestos containing materials are only slightly damaged, and it is safe to do so, we can carry out asbestos encapsulation. This is cost-effective and quick, causing minimal disruption and safely containing the asbestos.
Refurbishment and Demolition Surveys
One of the many types of Devon asbestos surveying we can carry out at Astech Environmental Ltd is refurbishment and demolition surveys. There are many factors you need to take into consideration when having a building renovated or demolished, and the presence of asbestos is one of those factors.
It is a legal requirement to have a survey carried out before any demolishing or refurbishment work is carried out, which is where a refurbishment and demolition survey comes in. This is a thorough survey that searches throughout your property identifying any asbestos containing materials. We will compile a report at the end of the survey which will contain written and photographic evidence, detailing the process moving forward and showing you have complied with current regulations.
Our refurbishment and demolition surveys are a destructive process, so they can only be carried out in unoccupied buildings. This is to comply with health and safety, as residents or visitors can’t be exposed to the airborne fibres from asbestos containing materials. However, you can rest assured knowing we work quickly to carry out a thorough survey, ensuring your work isn’t held up for too long.
Our refurbishment and demolition surveys will check for asbestos in a variety of locations, such as:
- Spray Coating
- Gaskets
- Vinyl Flooring
- Insulation Board Panels
- Bonded Cement
Asbestos Sample Analysis
Another service we carry out in conjunction with asbestos surveys and asbestos removal is asbestos sample analysis. It is not only important to identify if asbestos is present, but also to determine the type of asbestos it is. Knowing what type of asbestos we are working with helps determine the best course of action moving forward, and to find this out we need to carry out sample analysis.
There are three types of asbestos found in the UK – Chrysotile (white), Amosite (brown), and Crocidolite (blue) – and each needs to be handled differently. This is why asbestos sampling is important, to assist us in safely handling the asbestos located in your property.
Once we have carried out one of our asbestos surveys and determined asbestos containing materials are present, we will take samples of the ACMs. These will be the fibres found in the asbestos containing materials, and they will be sent to a UKAS accredited laboratory for analysis. Through a series of tests, they will be able to determine what type of asbestos we are dealing with and recommend the appropriate action to be taken.
